There is no reason why, with current digital technology, getting a headshot has to be a stressful experience....
... why it has to take weeks
... why it has to cost a fortune
... and why the end result so often looks like somebody else.
Ask casting people.
They'll tell you that the reason so many resume shots ultimately fail is that they simply don't represent the actor accurately or adequately. Faces that are so air-brushed they're practically expressionless; or, worse, pictures basically of clothes and backgrounds with teeny little heads that are barely noticeable amid all the other stuff that's going on.
(And what is up with the current trend that features actors with the tops of their heads cut off? Who invented that?)
Face it: Nobody is going to hire you for your wardrobe (except maybe for background work), and anything in a picture that competes with your face - particularly anything that distracts from your eyes - is a total waste. Whether you're going up for Soap Operas or soap commercials, what they want to see is the real YOU -- the Honest, the Warm, the Confident, the Capable and most importantly, the A-L-I-V-E YOU.
A Headshot is a work application, not an exercise in fantasy. Unrealistic retouching may be the order of the day for the cover of People Magazine, but the people who will file (or toss!) your P/R are not impressed with visual tricks, flashy borders or artsy angles. They need to see YOU.
And yes, sure, the photo will be enhanced in Photoshop, the gold-standard in visual editing. You'll be you at your best ... but you'll still be you!
